Every season brings something new to the Ozarks — here’s what to expect no matter when you visit.

One Lake, Four Very Different Seasons
We get this question a lot at Mockingbird Mountain:
“When’s the best time to visit Greers Ferry Lake?”
The short answer? It depends on what you’re looking for.
Some guests come for hiking and wildflowers. Others want hot weather and lake days. Some just want a peaceful, off-season stay where they can hear the birds and nothing else.
This guide will help you decide when to visit — whether you’re planning a family trip, a romantic weekend, or a long-term RV stay.
🌱 March–May: Spring Comes Alive

Spring is one of the most beautiful (and underrated) times to visit the lake.
What to expect:
- Mild temps (50s–70s)
- Wildflowers blooming along trails
- Deer and wildlife becoming more active
- Fewer crowds
- Water still cool, but warming up
Best for: Hikers, birdwatchers, peaceful cabin getaways
Trails to explore: Sugar Loaf Mountain, Mossy Bluff Trail
☀️ June–August: Classic Lake Season

If you’re all about swimming, boating, and long days outdoors — this is your time. It’s the busiest season around Greers Ferry Lake, but it’s also when the area comes alive.
What to expect:
- Warm temps (70s–90s)
- Best swimming, boating, and kayaking conditions
- Kids out of school = more families
- Buzzing small towns & events
- Sunset views that stretch on forever
Best for: Families, boaters, sunseekers
Where to stay: Cozy cabins or full-hookup RV sites that offer shade
🍂 September–November: Fall Colors & Crisp Air

Fall is a local favorite. The crowds drop off, but the weather stays beautiful. The trees put on a show, the hiking is perfect, and it’s cool enough for cozy nights around the fire.
What to expect:
- Temperatures from 80s (early Sept) to 50s (late Nov)
- Peak fall color usually in late October
- Great wildlife spotting
- Fewer bugs, less humidity
- Campfires, sweaters, and hiking weather
Best for: Couples, photographers, retirees, full-time RVers
Must-do: Pack a picnic and hike to a lake overlook during peak foliage
❄️ December–February: Quiet, Cool & Peaceful

Winter near Greers Ferry Lake isn’t harsh — just peaceful. Things slow down. Trails are empty. And if you’re someone who enjoys off-season travel, it’s a wonderful time to be here.
What to expect:
- Temps in the 30s–50s
- Occasional frost or snow, but rarely icy
- Extra quiet = true reset
- Lower cabin and RV rates
- Amazing wildlife watching (look for eagles!)
Best for: Solitude-seekers, off-season explorers, long-term RV guests
So… When’s the Best Time?

Here’s a quick breakdown:
| If You Want… | Visit During… |
| Wildflowers & quiet hikes | March–May |
| Lake fun & family vacations | June–August |
| Fall color & crisp weather | September–November |
| Low-key escape & reflection | December–February |
