Whether you’re here for the weekend or staying long-term, the area around Greers Ferry Lake is packed with scenic trails that don’t require advanced planning or overnight gear. As the owners of Mockingbird Mountain — a local RV and cabin retreat nestled in Edgemont, AR — we’ve hiked these trails ourselves, recommended them to guests, and even watched a few sunrises from the peaks. If you’re looking for a memorable hike that can be done in just a few hours, these five are our go-to picks.

1. Sugar Loaf Mountain Island Trail
Distance: 1.6-mile loop
Difficulty: Moderate
Time: 1.5–2 hours
Location: Accessible by boat from Fairfield Bay Marina
This is hands down the most unique trail near Greers Ferry Lake — not just because of the incredible views, but because it’s on an island. You’ll start with a quick boat ride or paddle from Fairfield Bay Marina to reach the trailhead. The loop takes you up a moderately steep path surrounded by hardwoods and boulders, eventually opening up to one of the best panoramic views in Arkansas.
We wrote a full Sugar Loaf Trail guide if you want extra details before you go.
Owner tip: If you’re not up for kayaking, the marina offers a quick shuttle to the island. Don’t forget to bring water and wear shoes with grip — the limestone can get slick after rain.
Local insight: It’s a popular hike, so mornings or weekdays are ideal for a quieter experience.

2. Mossy Bluff Trail
Distance: 1.6 miles out-and-back
Difficulty: Easy
Time: 45 minutes – 1 hour
Location: Heber Springs, near the National Fish Hatchery
This trail is a favorite for families, birdwatchers, and anyone looking for an easy walk with a view. It winds along the bluff above the Little Red River with multiple lookout points along the way. The views are especially pretty at golden hour when the sunlight hits the river below.

Owner tip: We’ve seen deer here in the early mornings and hawks circling in the late afternoon. It’s also shaded for most of the trail — perfect for hot days.
Parking: Plenty of space at the trailhead, including for larger vehicles and RVs if you’re coming straight from the park.

3. Collins Creek Trail
Distance: 0.8 miles roundtrip
Difficulty: Easy
Time: 30–45 minutes
Location: Near JFK Campground in Heber Springs
If you’re looking for a peaceful walk with water features, this one’s for you. The trail follows a beautiful spring-fed creek with small waterfalls and deep pools where local anglers cast for trout. It’s mostly flat and shaded, making it accessible for all ages.
Owner tip: Bring your camera — the light reflecting off the water makes for stunning photos. The trail is short, so pair it with a visit to the nearby fish hatchery or Mossy Bluff Trail.

4. Buckeye Trail
Distance: Approx. 2 miles
Difficulty: Moderate
Time: 1.5 hours
Location: Just off Highway 16 near Shirley
This trail feels a bit more rugged and off the beaten path. Expect some elevation changes, rocky footing, and narrower trail sections, but the reward is a quiet escape into the Ozark hardwoods. At the top, you’ll catch glimpses of Greers Ferry Lake through the trees, especially in fall and early spring.
Owner tip: We recommend this one for guests who want to avoid crowds and enjoy a more immersive nature experience. Cell service is spotty, so download your trail map if needed.
Bonus tip: Wildlife sightings are common along this route — we recently wrote about what to watch for in spring if you’re planning a nature walk.
5. Bridal Veil Falls Trail
Distance: 0.4 miles
Difficulty: Easy
Time: 20–30 minutes
Location: Near Heber Springs off Hwy 25
Short, sweet, and stunning — Bridal Veil Falls is one of the most photographed natural spots near Greers Ferry Lake. The trail is a quick walk from the parking lot and leads you to two beautiful waterfalls tucked in the forest. It’s a perfect stop on your way into or out of town.
Owner tip: This is a must-see if you’re short on time. It’s great for kids and anyone who wants a low-effort, high-reward view. Come early to avoid crowds.
